Be sure to get out to those drive-ins before they are closed for winter. Also, added a link to the new Chilton Twilight Outdoor Theater, located in Chilton, WI. It is a brand new drive-in that opened about a month ago. More info and pics to follow on that drive-in.

<>It's with great sadness that I announce the passing of Dorthy Legros. See passed away on July 22nd. Her husband Don passed away back in September of last year. They have owned the Big Sky Drive-in in the Wisconsin Dells since 1980. They will be missed. Their daughter Mary says the show must go on! Thanks to Robert Mager for posting the notice.

<>The Keno Drive-in Theater is opening for the season on April 15, 2011. I plan on being there! Are you??? Also the Stardust Drive-in located in Chetek, WI will be a twin theater this season! One more bit of great news is the 18 Outdoor Theater will be going digital this season becoming the first Wisconsin drive-in theater to bring you your favorite movies in digital projection! And last but not least, the Gemini Drive-in Theater in Eau Claire, WI is under new ownership. They will be introducing Flea Markets at the Gemini starting in April.

<>Well folks, if you didn't get to the drive-in the last few weeks, your out of luck.  All the drive-ins in Wisconsin are now CLOSED FOR THE SEASON!  I am thankful that I made it to the Keno Drive-in on Friday October 9th for one last spin on the ol' gravel lot.  Speaking of the Keno Drive-in, I have some news that they are getting a shake machine for next season!!  Yum Yum! 

Now I have a long, cold winter of withdrawal to endure.  But I will still have updates to the site ALL winter long so check back often to see what's new.  And speaking of new, check out the Drive-ins In The News page for the most recent drive-in news stories.  THINK SPRING EVERYONE!

<>Hey folks, it's been a LONG while since I had any updates.  Well that is because since the last update in May, I have had a major server meltdown and couldn't get ANYTHING to update for my site.  But finally, the problems have been fixed and some long overdue updates are here.  So bear with me on the "NEW" stories posted in the Drive-ins In The News section.  I listed all the news stories on that page with a NEW arrow just so you can get caught up on all the drive-in related items from the summer. 

It is also getting to be that time of year when the drive-ins will start closing for the season.  The 18 Outdoor in Jefferson will be closing on September 12th and the Gemini Drive-in is closing for the season on September 6th.  Remember the Gemini is still for sale so get to this drive-in because you never know when it could be gone forever. 

Be sure to check out the WI Drive-in Events page for some GREAT upcoming events at your local WI drive-in.

<>I have added to the Events page a listing for the Keno Drive-in theater.  Come celebrate Wisconsin's oldest continually operating Drive-in theater this summer!  The Keno Drive-in is having an anniversary weekend from May 15 through May 17th.  Birthday cake will be given out to everyone on Friday and Saturday nights.  Balloons will decorate the concession stand and more.  Cone on out and celebrate!

<>I have added a new drive-in theater to the WI Drive-in Theater Listings Page.  Well it's not new but I have been hesitant to add this drive-in for some time.  It is listed on the Region 3 listing.  It is called the Meadowlark Drive-in Theater and was located 6 miles south of Wisconsin Dells on Highway 12.  The theater opened on June 16, 1951 and wasn't open very long at all.  BUT it still existed and hopefully someone knows of this theater and has information and photos of it.  Please let me know if you do.  Thanks.

<>I have added a few special events to the Events Page.  This coming May 18th, 2009, will be the Keno Drive-in Theater's 60th anniversary.  The drive-in opened on May 18, 1949 and has been showing silver screen memories ever since.  I will post updates if any special anniversary events are planned.  Make an extra trip to Wisconsin's oldest drive-in theater this summer. 

Also, 2 more events are planned for the new Stardust Drive-in Theater in Chetek, WI.  In addition to the already posted Spook-A-Rama (September 25th and 26th), they are having a Harry Potter Costume Contest for the weekend of July 17th and 18th.  And a Pajama Party Weekend for August 21st and 22nd.  Check out the WI Drive-in Events page for more details. 

***On another note, I have made all the pages in this website that either contain photos of drive-ins, memorabilia and vintage newspaper ads to be copy protected.  This means that when you go to right click on a photo or newspaper ad, you won't be able to copy them anymore.  I have found numerous photos and vintage ads from my site all over the internet without proper credit given to me or this website.  So I have had to resort to copy protecting all my images on this site.  If you would like to use any of these photos or ads from my website for use in your blogs, newspaper articles etc, please email me your request and I will get back to you ASAP!  I apologize that I have had to do this, but I believe it is only fair to give credit where it's due.

<>Here is my first update of the new year!  I have created a page for Drive-in theater related videos.  I have linked up the original TV commercial for the 1959 Remco Movieland Drive-in Theater game for kids.  The scene in Grease with John Travolta singing "Sandy," at the drive-in and much more.  I think its a pretty cool page with a nod to nostalgia. 

I have also added  new pictures from my Labor Day '08 weekend trip to the Starlite 14 DI in Richland Center and the Big Sky Twin DI in the Dells.  There are 2 new pics on the Big Sky page and I replaced all of the old 35mm pictures of the Starlite 14 with new digital pictures I took that weekend.  Wow what a difference. 

Paul Javener, owner of the new Stardust Drive-in Theater in Chetek, WI already has an event planned for 2009.  Check out what it is on the Wisconsin Drive-in Events page. 

And last but not least, I have added a link for a site about drive-in theaters in Minnesota.  Cool site, check it out.  I have also made a new banner that can be used for other websites that want to link their site to mine.

<>If you want to get your drive-in fix until next spring, you had better hurry!  The Sky Vue Drive-in in Monroe is having there last weekend of the season on October 17th and 18th.  And the Keno Drive-in is still open but probably not for very long.  Remember folks, it's a looooong off season.  So hurry and celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first drive-in by attending one or both of the last 2 Wisconsin drive-ins that are still be open this season.

<>I hope everyone enjoyed their summer at the drive-in!  Some drive-ins across the state have closed for the season.  Others are still open so get your last minute fix of drive-in entertainment for the year before they close till the spring.  I have finally updated the Drive-ins In The News page so some of the stories are from back in August but still a good read.  I have also added a new drive-in ad to the Drive-in Theater ads from the 1930's page.  It is an ad from May 10, 1936 for the drive-in that would become know as the Pico Drive-in in Los Angeles.  It's the first drive-in built in California.  This is now my oldest original drive-in theater newspaper ad that I have in my collection.  Check it out.

<>I have finally fixed the Wisconsin drive-in theater listings page.  For quite some time, the page just wouldn't load properly and freeze up people's computers.  I never could figure out what the problem was.  So I have fixed it by creating a whole new page devoted to all the drive-ins that once operated or still do in Wisconsin.  On this page there are links to 4 regions of Wisconsin that list all of these drive-ins depending on their location.  The links there will take you to pages letting you know exactly what kind of information and photos are still needed for the book project from all of WI's drive-in theaters. 

Also, there is a new page to check out where I will be listing Wisconsin Drive-in Events.  The events listed on this page will give everyone a heads up about any special events or promotions happening at any of Wisconsin's operating drive-ins.  For example, dusk to dawn shows, special appearances by Doctor Cryptosis, car club meets etc.  So check back to this page often as I will try to keep it as current as possible.

<>This is my first update of the year!  Remember that this is the 75th anniversary year of the first drive-in theater to open in Camden, NJ back on June 6, 1933.   Celebrate all summer long by attending your local drive-in theater.  Bring the whole family!  Speaking of the first drive-in theater in the country, have I got a piece of drive-in theater history for you to enjoy!  Recently I obtained what is known as a "cover."  It is basically just an envelope that was mailed to someplace else.  Ahhh, but this isn't just any envelope.  Want to know more, go the Drive-in Theater Historical Artifacts page for more details. 

I have added a new banner that can be used for my link on other websites.  It is located on my drive-in theater links page.  Just click, "Save picture as..."  I have been adding vintage drive-in newspaper ads to the USA page.  Check them out.  Also, new updated photos of the construction of the new drive-in up in Chetek, WI.  The Stardust Drive-in is still scheduled to have the grand opening in May, 2008.

<>There is a new link on the News Media Interviews page where I was interviewed by Marty Weil of, "Ephemera - Exploring the world of old paper."  Check it out!  I have also been adding many new drive-in theater ads from across the country.  I will just keep adding to it until I am done with the ads that I have currently.  Then I will let everyone know that it is complete.  (At least to that point.)  All the drive-in theater newspaper ads have been combined on to one page.  From there you can link to all the different drive-in ads, (grand opening, 1930's, Wisconsin, USA ads etc.).
